Notes:

  1. Friedrich Jakob Zehnder and his family were founding members of Salem Kirche. (See note on lot 17.)

  2. Carolina Fredericka (Schlehner) was Friedrich Jakob Zehnder’s first wife and Barbara Marie (Veith) was his second wife.

    ZEHNDER – Carolina Fredericka Schlehner died January 17, 1867 and was interred at Zion ME Cemetery, W. Saint Paul Township, Dakota, Minnesota. She was born January 2, 1832, in Wineden, Württemberg, Germany. She immigrated to America in 1851 and married Frederick Zehnder, January 2, 1857. (d. 17 Jan. 1867)

  3. Christian J. Friedrich Zehnder was the son of Friedrich Jakob Zehnder. After Salem Kirche closed its doors as an active congregation around 1913, Christian was instrumental in keeping Salem Kirche alive. Christian was part of a group that, in December of 1949, established a permanent committee of trustees to oversee the maintenance and preservation of Old Salem Church and its cemetery. Christian served as secretary/treasurer and dedicated over 50 years to the survival of Salem Kirche and Kirchoff. (See note on lot 34.)

Plot A: Virginia (Zehnder) Janecek

Janecek –Virginia Irene (Zehnder), October 20, age 78, res. City of Sunfish Lake. Dear wife of Joseph J., sister of Cyrus E. Zehnder, Lloyd, City of Sunfish Lake, Mildred Finley, San Angelo, TX, Earl, West St. Paul. Private family services 2 p.m. Saturday from the English & Meeker Funeral Home. Plot B: Friedrich Jakob Zehnder, 1824-1907 (9/10/1824 - 1/26/1907)

Zehnder – Friedrich “Fritz” Jakob, Mr. Jacob F. Zehnder, one of the oldest residents of Inver Grove, died on January 26th. Mr. Zehnder was born in Sulzbach, Wurtemberg, September 10th, 1824, spending his youth in Germany. In 1852 he came to America, remaining in Philadelphia a year, and then settling on his farm in this county. He was married to Miss Carolina F. Schlehner in 1854, by whom he had six children. She died in January of 1867. December 26th, 1867, he was married to Miss Maria B. Veith, who bore him five children. Two of the former and one of the latter are dead. He had been an active member of the German Evangelical Church over forty years, was president of the board of trustees, a class leader, and also had charge of a class in the Sunday school. He leaves a wife, three sons, and five daughters, William, of Carver County, John C., of Saint Paul, Christian J., of Inver Grove, Mrs. August Damann, of Castle Rock, Mrs. William Juenke, of South Branch, Mrs. John Hielscher, of Seattle, Mrs. Edward Schultz, of Farmington, and Miss Ida, of Saint Paul. There are thirty grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Evangelical Church the following Thursday, at 2 p.m., the Rev. George Spaeth, of Saint Paul, officiating, assisted by the Rev. E. J. Hielscher, of Faribault, and the Rev. C. F. Kachel, of Saint Paul. Two songs were rendered by the Saint Paul Male Quartette. Interment in the family lot at the church cemetery. Plot C: Barbara Marie (Veith) Zehnder, 1839-1919 (5/13/1839 - 4/5/1919)

Zehnder – Barbara Marie (Veith), widow of Frederick Zehnder, 79 years of age, on April 5, 1919, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. August Damann, Castle Rock, Minnesota. Funeral on Tuesday, April 8, at 1:30 p.m., from the old homestead, now the residence of her son, Christian J. Zehnder, South Robert Street, Inver Grove. Services at 2 p.m., Salem M.E. Plot G: Emma Martha (Kurrelmeier) Zehnder, 1873-1948 (4/24/1873 – 5/3/1948)

Zehnder – Emma Martha (Kurrelmeier) Mrs. Zehnder Dies at 75 Years. Mrs. Zehnder was born and raised in Inver Grove Township. She was born April 24, 1873. Her maiden name was Emma Kurrelmeier. March 16, 1898, she was united in marriage to Christian J. Zehnder. Mrs. Zehnder was founder of the Salem Lutheran Church, Missionary Society and served as their president for many years. She was organist of the church for over 40 years. She also taught the adult Bible class for many years. Her favorite pastimes were music, flowers, needlework and reading. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at one o’clock from the home and at 2:30 from the Salem Methodist Church. Burial was made in the Inver Grove Township Cemetery. She leaves to morn in her passing her beloved husband, Christian; three sons, Cyrus E., Lloyd L. of Inver Grove Township and Earl V. of West Saint Paul; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Janacek, Inver Grove Township, and Mrs. Arthur A, Finley of South Saint Paul, one sister Mrs. Paul Walter, of San Diego, California, besides eight grandchildren. Zehnder – Christian J. Frederick, January 28, age 97, Route 10 Salem Church Road, South Saint Paul. Father of Mrs. Joseph (Virginia) Janecek, Cyrus E. and Lloyd, all of Sunfish Lake Village, Mrs. Arthur (Mildred) Finley, South Saint Paul, Earl of West Saint Paul. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Faith United Methodist Church, 1530 Oakdale Ave., West Saint Paul. Interment Salem E.U.B. Cemetery, Inver Grove Heights. Friends may call at the English & Meeker Funeral Home, 140 8th Ave. N., South Saint Paul, 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and at the church 1 hour before the service.
