Charles Simon, son of John and Annie Simon, died Friday, May 23, at South Park of heart disease and inflammation of the brain, aged 16 years, 7 months and 23 days. Funeral Sunday, May 25, 2 p. m., at Zion’s Church, corner East Winifred and Bancroft. [West Saint Paul Times, Sat., 24 May 1890, page 3, col. 2]
Impressive funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon last at Zion’s Church (Evangelical Association) corner of Winifred and Bancroft Streets over the remains of Charles Simon, a son of Alderman John Simon, of South Saint Paul. The young man was in his seventeenth year and was cut off by an attack of brain fever, after a struggle of one week with the malady, despite skillful medical attention and every care that his friends could bestow. He was a bright well-liked man and the church was crowded with mourners. The services were conducted by Reverend Frank Tesch, and the touching funeral discourse was delivered by Reverend George Spaeth, the Pastor of the church. The remains were conveyed from there to Zion’s Cemetery, in Inver Grove Township. And the heartfelt grief of the relatives called forth the strongest sympathies of all who were present, especially when the casket was being hidden from view.
